WORKSHOP BY KATHAK DANCE TEACHER FROM ICC, ASTANA, KAZAKHSTAN
(Bishkek, January 6-16, 2014)
Kathak dance teacher from the Indian Cultural Centre in Asthana, Kazakhstan Ms. Lyailya Omarova conducted a workshop of Kathak and Indian folk dances in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan during January 6-16, 2014. About 100 students and teachers of the National Educational Centre of Aesthetic Education ‘Balajan’, Children’s Model Theater ‘Tabrik’ and Ensemble ‘Kauhar’ of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University attend the workshop.

The workshop introduced the children from Kyrgyzstan to brief history of Kathak, fundamentals of Nritya, Natya and Hasta, basics of rhythm in Hindustani music, technical compositions such as Tatkar, Hastak, Palta, Tukda, Tihai, Aamad and Paran, choreography of two dance compositions in Kathak comprising Guru Vandana, Teen Taal, Tarana and also Punjabi folk dance.
The workshop enabled Kyrgyz students to obtain an insight into Kathak and Indian traditions. The workshop was immensely popular among the teachers and students alike.
