Successful launch of GSLV- Mark III
“After successful entry of India’s Mission to Mars on 24th September 2014, India took another big stride by successful launch of GSLV-Mark III in the Space research. On 18th December 2014 the ISRO successfully launched the GSLV-Mark III from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. It is India’s latest generation Rocket- Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle carrying the ‘Crew Module Atmospheric Re-entry Experiment (CARE). The launch of GSLV-Mark III is an important landmark in India’s space programme and demonstrates, yet again, India’s growing capabilities in space launch technology. Mark III is a 42.4 metres tall launch vehicle which is used to launch heavier communication satellites of INSAT-4 Class which weigh 4500 to 5000 kgs. It costs about USD 26.2 million. This is capable of doubling the capacity of payloads India can carry into the space. It takes India a step closer to sending astronauts to space. It enhances the capacity of India to be a competitive player in the multimillion dollar commercial launch market.”
